I'm just hoping this all works out. I don't just want to be an exchange student, I need it. Anyway, this'll be a gap year if it all works out, because I need a year to figure stuff out, learn a new language, etc. before heading off to college-land. And hello, PORTUGAL?! EXCHANGE?! Put 'em together and it's just a lovely cocktail.

I think I'm learning Portuguese I really think so.

My 2007-2008 gap year exchange with ASSE/Multiway in Portugal, from the later stages of the application process to the (probably) dramatic and reluctant end.

First post, heh heh.

So I'm "pre-accepted" to ASSE...here's the e-mail. Enjoy until I can post more.

Dear Chelsea,

Congratulations! I am very pleased to inform you that your preliminary application for participation in an ASSE student exchange program has been accepted.

Attached please find your ASSE final application “packet” materials along with a handy checklist and guideline designed to help you complete and return the packet. (Please note: a "hard" copy of these materials is also on the way to you via US Mail.) A personal interview with your ASSE Representative needs to be conducted and should be scheduled with your ASSE Representative, Jacqueline ---------. This interview will assist you in completing your application.

While we cannot guarantee you will be placed in your country of preference, the sooner we receive your completed packet, the more likely you will be to get your first choice! We know that you are as excited about your exchange year as we are and therefore urge you to send in all final application forms as soon as possible. The final deadline for all materials is 01 April 2007 - but don’t leave it to the last minute.

A final decision will occur upon review of your final application form and other materials including: school and community recommendations, school transcripts, your personal essay, photo collage, health certificate, interview recommendation and receipt of your program fee deposit.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call Jacqueline at (207) --- ----. Your ASSE Area Representative will be happy to help you and make your dream of studying abroad come true! You may also call our ASSE regional office at 1 800 --- ---- or I can be contacted at (207) --- ----.

Again, on behalf of everyone at ASSE, I want to congratulate you and welcome you to the ASSE program. We look forward to getting to know you and to sharing in the excitement of your exchange year abroad!

Sincerely,

Joyce ---------
ASSE Area Coordinator

{{That really doesn't mean that much, but it's still exciting to see the words "you're accepted" even if it's just the "pre" part}}
